Energy Management: Overcoming Complexity
ZF Group and Synop are collaborating to ensure fleets rapidly scale electrification.
Synop scales electric vehicle fleets through automated charging and energy management tools. Synop’s product improves the total cost of ownership of electric vehicles across fleets and lowers the cost of energy used by offering real-time charging and energy management to save costs.
Challenge
Synop and ZF teamed up to solve fleet electrification at scale for fleets of all sizes. For fleets to effectively adopt and scale EVs across their operation, they need software tooling to help them manage EVs, manage chargers, and connect to energy sources (the grid). Synop has built proprietary software that enables fleets to connect chargers to EVs of all sizes and manage energy across depots. Combine this with ZF’s world-class leading fleet solutions and you have a partnership that enables customers to have all the tooling they need in one place, at scale. Synop and ZF recognize each other as leaders in the fleet and electrification space and combined forces.
Solution
At its core, the solution ZF and Synop have created utilizes APIs to integrate Synop’s charging and energy management solutions into SCALAR, ZF’s cloud platform for customers. The Synop platform can be seamlessly integrated into SCALAR without requiring customers to utilize two dashboards for their daily vehicle operations. Synop’s engineering and product teams worked directly with the engineering and product teams at ZF’s SCALAR in order to first wireframe mockups and then execute the integration. The final outcome is charging and energy management living in SCALAR, accessible by its 350,000+ customers!
Outcome
The next step is to test what the two partners have created together with actual, live customers in the field using electric assets and electric chargers. Their initial plans for rollout are focused on the European Union targeting customers that ZF has in the region. As they work through these efforts of scaling, ZF and Synop are also entering into partnership discussions around a joint commercial arrangement that will solidify a partnership between the two companies for the years to come.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to Marc Lübke (ZF) and the Synop Team.
